Parents Council
The Parents Association is pleased to announce the 2009-2010 Parents Council!
In the Association’s seven year history, many enthusiastic parents have expressed the desire to help establish a Council to serve as a sounding board, liaison, and advocate for the Parents & Families Fund. With a solid membership base of over 5,500 families, the Parents Association has responded to that call.
The purpose of the Parents Council is to foster communication between the University and parents in order to improve the quality of the university experience for University of Tennessee students and their parents. Council members serve as liaisons, reflecting the views of parents to the administration, and communicating with fellow parents about the goals and plans of the University. The members of the Parents Council also assist in furthering the goals of the Parents and Families Fund through development and fundraising efforts.
The members of the Parents Council are leaders and as such we ask that they are Career Members of the Parents Association, support the Parents and Families Fund with a leadership gift, and attend all Council meetings held in conjunction with annual Family Weekend activities.
The Council consists of three committees (Communication, Membership & Events, and Development & Outreach), each with specific goals to assist the Parents Association and its members, and to support the Parents and Families Fund.
The 2009-2010 Parents Council consists of 30 members, with representatives from each graduating class at the University. The Council meets two to three times each year with the Parents Association Staff and UT Administrators. The meetings coincide with other Parents Association events such as the Fall and Spring Family Weekends. In addition, Parents Council members participate in 4-6 conference calls annually and staff numerous activities and events on campus and in the surrounding areas.
