Parents and Families Fund FAQ
The Parents and Families Fund is a special gift-giving
program for parents of undergraduate students.
The deep interest and generous support of parents
have made a significant difference in helping
UT maintain its position as an international
leader in higher education and in enhancing
students’ out-of-class experiences.
How will my gift help?
Private gifts allow the Division of Student Affairs to respond to opportunities for strengthening and enriching undergraduate life whenever these opportunities arise and to meet unanticipated student needs immediately, without having to wait for the next budget cycle.
Why ask parents to give?
As a state-assisted (not state supported) institution, The University of Tennessee receives approximately 36% of its budget from state appropriations. Consequently, UT must look to private donors to help fill this gap and maintain the quality of its programs.
Your support provides the "extras" not available through other sources of funding. This gift opportunity allows parents to strengthen the living and learning environment at UT by maintaining and bolstering programs focused on community building, service, the enhancement of leadership skills, self-confidence, and intellectual passion.
Why does UT ask parents to give, when we already pay student fees and living expenses?
We ask parents because we know you are proud that your sons and daughters attend one of the nation’s finest institutions. We know that no one cares more about our undergraduates than the parents of those students. UT students enjoy exceptional opportunities and parents want to contribute to and sustain those advantages.
How much should I give?
We ask that you consider making the Parents and Families Fund one of your charitable giving priorities this year. Whether your gift to the campaign is $25, $250, or $25,000, we ask that you do give. Your participation is vital to sustaining the tradition of excellence in higher education that UT has always represented.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes. Donors who itemize deductions receive a full tax benefit.
