Emergency Information & Student Illness

In Case of Student Emergency or Illness

If your student becomes sick or has an emergency, please see the resources below designed to help your student. We have compiled several departments, offices, and other resources that will be able to assist your student should an unexpected situation or illness occur.

Campus Healthcare & Medical Emergencies

In the event of a medical emergency involving any student, faculty, or staff member, immediately call 911 or (865) 974-3111, or pick up a Blue Light Phone to alert first-response medical care.

Non-emergency resources for students include the Student Health Service, Counseling Center, and UT Medical Center:

Students can receive medical treatment at UT Medical Center after 5:00 PM weekdays and on weekends. A valid student ID is required.

The easiest way to find a medical clinic off campus is to search any popular Internet search engine for "Medical Clinics, Knoxville, TN". The UT Parents Association and the University of Tennessee do not endorse any non-university healthcare providers and/or medical resources.

The Office of the Dean of Students is able to assist parents and students in the event of an emergency situation. Realizing each situation is unique, please contact the Dean of Students office at (865) 974-3179 to discuss how the office may assist. Intervention(s) may include:

  • Email notification to faculty in the event of an injury, illness, or family emergency

  • Assistance with reducing course load, or withdrawal from the University

  • Engagement with additional University support services which may include:
    • Counseling Center

    • Student Success Center

    • Disability Services

    • Student Health Center

    • Campus Ministers Council
