Guidelines for Academic, Leadership, and Service Scholarships
Scholarship Applications
Please read the information below for details on the Parents Association Academic, Leadership, and Service Scholarships. The application period for 2010 Academic, Leadership, and Service Scholarships will be in the Spring 2010 semester.
Applications will be available online
and should be submitted electronically. A copy
of your academic history is required with your application. You may obtain a copy of your academic
history at no charge at the Registrar's Office
(209 Student Services Building). The submission
of a resume with an academic history is optional.
You must submit your academic history
in person to the Office of the Parents Association
(412 Student Services Building) no later than
5:00 PM on April 24, 2009. Failure
to submit your academic history will void your
scholarship application.
Overview
Through generous contributions made to the Parents and Families Fund by Parents Association members, the Parents Association Office has established a scholarship programs for students of Association members. Scholarships include International, Academic, Service, and Leadership awards, which provide financial support to students who achieve high standards of excellence in one or more of these areas.
This scholarship program provides financial support to students who achieve high standards of excellence inside and outside of the classroom. The Parents Association Scholarship Committee is comprised of staff and students who select recipients based on the specific criteria indicated below through a competitive selection process. Funds are distributed to the students in 50% increments for the fall and spring semesters during Financial Aid disbursement.
Eligibility and Requirements
There are four scholarships for which students may apply: Academic, Service, Leadership, and International. For information about the International Scholarships, please see the International Scholarship webpage.
Academic Scholarship Eligibility:
- Applicants’ parent(s) or guardian(s) must be members of the Parents Association at the time of application & award.
- Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student and have completed 24 semester hours of coursework by May 2009, prior to receiving the scholarship.
- UT students must have 3.5 cumulative GPA (Suspension, academic probation, dismissal or failure to maintain 3.5 GPA will result in the scholarship being automatically revoked.)
- Transfer students must have 3.5 cumulative GPA from their previous institution(s) (Suspension, academic probation, dismissal or failure to maintain 3.5 GPA will result in the scholarship being automatically revoked.)
Service Scholarship Eligibility:
- Applicants’ parent(s) or guardian(s) must be members of the Parents Association at the time of application & award.
- Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student and have completed 48 semester hours of coursework by May 2009, prior to receiving the scholarship.
- UT students must have 3.0 cumulative GPA (Suspension, academic probation, dismissal or failure to maintain 3.0 GPA will result in the scholarship being automatically revoked.)
- Transfer students must have 3.0 cumulative GPA from their previous institution(s) (Suspension, academic probation, dismissal or failure to maintain 3.0 GPA will result in the scholarship being automatically revoked.)
- Applicants must have demonstrated interest in service & established involvement in service activities while at the University of Tennessee.
Leadership Scholarship Eligibility:
- Applicants’ parent(s) or guardian(s) must be members of the Parents Association at the time of application & award.
- Applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student and have completed 48 semester hours of coursework by May 2009, prior to receiving the scholarship.
- UT students must have 3.0 cumulative GPA (Suspension, academic probation, dismissal or failure to maintain 3.0 GPA will result in the scholarship being automatically revoked.)
- Transfer students must have 3.0 cumulative GPA from their previous institution(s) (Suspension, academic probation, dismissal or failure to maintain 3.0 GPA will result in the scholarship being automatically revoked.)
- Applicants must have demonstrated leadership potential & established involvement in leadership activities while at the University of Tennessee.
Application Procedure
Complete the application form (available at the top of this page) online and submit via the secure server. Visit the Office of the Registrar (209 Student Services Building) to obtain a copy of your academic history at no charge and deliver it, in person, to the Parents Association Office located at 412 Student Services Building between April 1 and April 24, 2009.
Deadline
Applications must be sumbmitted online and academic histories must be received at the Parents Association office by April 24, 2009 at 5:00 PM. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Failure to submit an academic history prior to the deadline will void your scholarship application.
Notification
The Parents Association office will announce the scholarship winners by May 29, 2009 and winners will be notified by mail. The first half of the distribution amount will be awarded Fall 2009, and the second half of the distribution amount will be awarded Spring 2010 provided the student maintains the requirements indicated below.
